Carla Arlien, Ph.D.

Carla Arlien, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist and founder of Apex Psychological Care and Memory Center which has locations in Poland, Ohio and Moon Township, Pennsylvania. Dr. Arlien received her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with a Gerontology Minor from the University of North Dakota. She earned her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Arlien completed her internship and fellowship in Clinical Geropsychology at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System. She formerly practiced at Bluestem Behavioral Health Group in Beaver, Pennsylvania. Dr. Arlien is a member of the American Psychological Association, Ohio Psychological Association, and Pennsylvania Psychological Association. She also is on staff at Ohio Valley General Hospital. Dr. Arlien serves as a consultant to several nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and personal care homes. She also gives presentations on topics including, but not limited to: Alzheimer's Disease/Dementia, Memory Loss, Memory Training, Caregiving, Competency Evaluations, Psychotherapy, and Mental Illness. Dr. Arlien has also served as an expert witness for decision making capabilities with older adults.

Dr. Arlien specializes in psychotherapy/counseling with adults of all ages, geriatrics, and neuropsychological assessment (e.g., memory evaluations, competency evaluations, and adult attention deficit disorder evaluations).  She sees patients in Moon Township, Pennsylvania and Poland, Ohio offices.

Stephen Beckjord, Psy.D.

Stephen Beckjord, Psy.D. is a licensed psychologist who has been with Apex Psychological Care and Memory Center since December 2011. He provides psychological services at the Moon Township office, including individual psychotherapy, neuropsychological evaluation, and psychological evaluation. Dr. Beckjord earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Pennsylvania State University and his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Dr. Beckjord completed his internship training at the Vanderbilt-VA Internship Consortium and his postdoctoral fellowship at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System, with an emphasis in Geropsychology. Dr. Beckjord is a member of the American Psychological Association and the Pennsylvania Psychological Association.

Dr. Beckjord specializes in individual and group psychotherapy, emphasizing strategies and techniques from both Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Interpersonal Psychotherapy, along with neuropsychological and psychological evaluation. He treats adults of all ages and has worked in a variety of treatment settings including university-based major medical centers, VA hospitals, and community mental health centers. Dr. Beckjord is based out of the Moon Township, Pennsylvania office.

Erin Sheaffer, LCSW

Erin is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has been with Apex Psychological Care and Memory Center since June 2011. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Social Work with minors in Psychology and Sociology from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. Erin earned her Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh. She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers. She is also treasurer of the Southwest Pennsylvania Division of Social Workers in Aging Practice.

Erin brings a variety of experience to the practice and has extensive experience working with adults facing a wide range of challenges. She has worked in hospice, acute care settings, an outpatient substance abuse treatment center, and in several long-term care programs for senior citizens. Erin treats adults of all ages at the Moon Township, Pennsylvania office location.

Hilary Zurbuch, LPC

Hilary Zurbuch is a Licensed Professional Counselor who has been with Apex since January 2012. Hilary is a graduate of Fairmont State University with a degree in Psychology and a minor in Education, and she completed her Master’s Degree at Carlow University in Professional Counseling. Hilary has been a member of Obsessive Compulsive Foundation of Western PA for nine years and currently serves as the Vice President.

Hilary specializes in the treatment of anxiety and mood disorders in both children and adults.   A focus of her career has been treating anxiety disorders such as obsessive compulsive disorder, phobias, generalized anxiety disorder, and school avoidance. This training also allows her to offer treatment to those seeking help with Tourette's disorder, tic disorders, hair pulling, and hoarding.

Hilary has advanced training in Cognitive Behavioral therapy and Exposure Prevention so that she can expertly and effectively help individuals with a variety of problems.  Hilary has also combined her advanced Cognitive Behavioral Therapy training with Dialectal Behavioral Therapy training to offer a well-rounded approach to treating a variety of problems that people may face. 

Hilary believes families are an essential part of treatment, treatment team, and the therapeutic process. As she involves families in the sessions, she educates them about the diagnosis, treatment options, and the treatment process. Hilary offers support to the family as they make the journey through the healing process with their child.

Hilary sees patients in the Moon Township, Pennsylvania office and is accepting new children, adolescent, and adult patients.
