Carla Arlien, Ph.D.
Carla Arlien, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist and founder of Apex Psychological Care and Memory Center which has locations in Boardman, Ohio and Moon Township, Pennsylvania. Dr. Arlien received her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with a Gerontology Minor from the University of North Dakota. She earned her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Arlien completed her internship and fellowship in Clinical Geropsychology at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System. Dr. Arlien is a member of the American Psychological Association, Ohio Psychological Association, and Pennsylvania Psychological Association. She also is on staff at Ohio Valley General Hospital. Marty Kish, MSW, LISW
Marty Kish, MSW, LISW, is a Licensed Independent Social Worker who has been with Apex Psychological Care and Memory Center since May 2014. She earned her Bachelor in Psychology and Master of Social Work degrees from Youngstown State University. Marty is a member of the National Association of Social Workers. She currently offers therapy services to individuals, families and couples. Marty has experience treating children and adolescents with emotional and behavior problems, working with adults and children with disabilities, and treating victims of abuse in her practice. Heather Poma, Psy.D.
Heather Poma, Psy.D. is a licensed psychologist in Ohio and Pennsylvania, and an independently licensed marriage and family therapist in Ohio. She began working at Apex Psychological Care and Memory Center at the Boardman, Ohio location in October of 2014. Dr. Poma received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Rhodes College in Memphis, TN. After her undergraduate work, she joined the United States Army as a mental health specialist, working with active-duty soldiers to address their mental health needs. After her military service, she earned her Master’s and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Regent University in Virginia Beach, VA, where she specialized in marriage and family work and became heavily involved with the MMATE Center’s Hope-Focused couples’ therapy project. This remains her primary orientation toward couples’ therapy. Dr. Poma completed her internship in Clinical Psychology at the Dayton VA Medical Center. She completed her postdoctoral training program in clinical psychology at Portage Path Behavioral Health in Akron, Ohio. Dr. Poma is a member of the American Psychological Association, Ohio Psychological Association, American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy, Ohio Association of Marriage and Family Therapy, and Christian Association of Psychological Studies. She also gives presentations on topics including, but not limited to: Marriage Enrichment, Sexual Concerns, Family Issues, Church Responses to Mental Illness, Psychotherapy, and Mental Illness. Dr. Poma provides individual therapy, couples and/or marital therapy, family therapy, therapy to address sexual concerns, and Christian counseling (as well as therapy with other highly religious individuals). She also specializes in psychotherapy/counseling with veteran and military populations (as well as family members) and trauma. Catina (Tina) Taylor, MSW, LISW-S, LICDC, is a Licensed Independent Social Worker and a Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor. She has been with Apex Psychological Care and Memory Center since April of 2012. Tina received her Bachelor’s in Psychology and her Master’s in Social Work from The Ohio State University. Tina has a wide variety of experience treating children, adolescents and adults. She has previously worked in a residential setting, in a hospital emergency room, and with an agency serving those affected by HIV/AIDS. Tina provides individual and family therapy. Sharon Arffa, Ph.D., MPPM
Sharon Arffa, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist and school psychologist who has 30 years of experience as a clinical neuropsychologist. Dr. Arffa received her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the State University college of Buffalo. She earned a Master’s degree in school psychology from the State University college at Oswego NY. She completed her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and School Psychology at Indiana University in Bloomington Indiana. Dr. Arffa completed her internship in Neuropsychology at the Indiana University Medical Center. She also earned a Masters of Public Policy and Management at the University of Pittsburgh. She formerly practiced at Allegheny General Hospital and the Watson Institute in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Dr. Arffa is a member of the National Academy of Neuropsychology. She also serves as a consultant to Value Behavioral Health. Dr. Arffa also gives presentations on topics including, but not limited to: traumatic brain injury in children and adolescents, epilepsy, dyslexia, autism, ADHD, and child competency evaluations. Dr. Arffa has also has served as an expert witness for civil litigation and competency issues with the pediatric population. She specializes in psychotherapy/counseling and neuropsychological assessment with concussion and traumatic brain injury individuals ages 4 and older and adults. Jamie Miller, LPC, NCC
Jamie Miller is a Licensed Professional Counselor who has been with Apex since July of 2015. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Pennsylvania State University and she earned her Master's degree in Professional Counseling from Carlow University. Jamie has previously worked in a residential setting, partial hospitalization program, and an outpatient setting. She has extensive experience treating children, adolescents, and adults who have depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, grief, stress, parenting challenges, and behavioral issues. Jamie provides individual and family counseling, utilizing several individualized techniques to support the needs of the client. Erin Sheaffer, LCSW
Erin is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has been with Apex Psychological Care and Memory Center since June 2011. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Social Work with minors in Psychology and Sociology from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. Erin earned her Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh. She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers. She is also treasurer of the Southwest Pennsylvania Division of Social Workers in Aging Practice. Erin brings a variety of experience to the practice and has extensive experience working with adults facing a wide range of challenges. She has worked in hospice, acute care settings, an outpatient substance abuse treatment center, and in several long-term care programs for senior citizens. Danielle Swanson, LCSW
Danielle Swanson is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has been with Apex since May of 2015. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Anthropology at Stockton University in southern New Jersey and her Master’s Degree in Social Work at the University of Pittsburgh. Danielle has previously worked at a psychiatric emergency room, university counseling services, an acute partial hospitalization program with adults, and for the ARC of Atlantic County NJ helping developmentally disabled children. She has been a member of the National Association of Social Workers since 2010. Danielle has experience in providing many different psychotherapy techniques including: CBT, motivational interviewing, psychodynamic psychotherapy, crisis counseling, brief solution focused therapy, and couples counseling. Hilary Zurbuch is a Licensed Professional Counselor who has been with Apex since January 2012. Hilary is a graduate of Fairmont State University with a degree in Psychology and a minor in Education. She completed her Master’s Degree at Carlow University in Professional Counseling. Hilary is a member of Obsessive Compulsive Foundation of Western PA and currently serves as the Vice President. Hilary specializes in the treatment of anxiety, OCD, and mood disorders with children and adults. Hilary has advanced training in Cognitive Behavioral therapy and Exposure Prevention so that she can effectively help individuals with a variety of problems. Hilary believes families are an essential part of treatment, the treatment team, and the therapeutic process. Chelsea Sargent, MA CCC/SLP
Chelsea Sargent is a licensed speech language pathologist. She received her undergraduate degree from Thiel College in Speech and Hearing Sciences and her Master's Degree from Ohio University in Speech and Language Pathology. Chelsea specializes in cognitive rehabilitation therapy. She will provide you with strategies to help you improve your attention, memory, and other aspects of your thinking. Chelsea will tailor a cognitive exercise program for you to use at home based on your specific problems. She often works with the client and family together in order for them to improve the client’s thinking and memory so that the client’s functioning and quality of life are improved. Chelsea treats children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric clients who have had concussions, traumatic brain injuries, strokes, dementia, and memory loss.
